I use a 120 connibear live trap supplied by Duke as well as some homemade funnel traps to catch river rats, or muskrats to cook fresh. I soaked the muskrat briefly in salt water, then boiled it for several hours in water over an open fire. I removed it, then placed it on the Bitty Big Q to sear it along with some BBQ sauce.
I also build a new funnel trap using some 1" wire fencing and some tin shaped into a cone. This works a lot like a minnow trap where the animal goes in, but can't figure out how to escape. All traps used are not only legal, but also ethical, tested to high standards to ensure that animals are taken humanely.
